Jonathan Davidson and Midland Creative Projects Limited in association with Warwick Arts Centre and Bloodaxe Books present:
Changing Lives – Powerful Poetry, Brilliantly Performed
Using some of the most powerful poetry published by Bloodaxe Books over the last thirty years, Changing Lives presents poetry as it should be experienced: full of wit, vitality and emotion. It is inspired by every aspect of our changing lives – from birth to death and all the glorious details between. And while there are moments of sadness, Changing Lives also provides comedy and thought provoking stories.
Changing Lives is performed as a theatre piece by a team of three actors – Alex De Marcus, Susan Southall and John Flitcroft – and is directed by Steve Byrne of Interplay Theatre. A haunting sound track, moving images and a stunning design are provided by Derek Nisbett and Janet Vaughan of Talking Birds. For details of creative team click here. The poets whose work is featured include Jackie Kay, Helen Dunmore and David Constantine. For details of poems being used click here.
Changing Lives challenges the accepted view that only poets can perform poetry. It moves the centre of gravity of poetry events away from the poet and their personality and towards the poems and the audience who might enjoy them. While all the poets are paid for use of their work, Changing Lives focuses on how best to release the poems used to those who read or listen to poetry.
Changing Lives toured in October 2007 and will tour again in late March / early April 2008. Venues have included Coventry, Canterbury, Darlington, Guildford, Swindon and Maidenhead. For details of venues click here.
